How to design the flow channel of precision injection moulds?

(1) Key points in the design of the main flow path of a precision injection mould

The diameter of the main flow channel affects the pressure, flow rate and mould filling time of the molten plastic during injection.

In order to facilitate the processing of precision injection moulds, the main flow path is generally not made directly on the mould, but by using a sprue sleeve. In general, the length of the gate sleeve should be as short as possible to avoid excessive pressure loss in the molten plastic flow and to reduce scrap and manufacturing costs.

(2) Key points in the design of manifolds for precision injection moulds

Precision injection moulding manifold is a channel for the molten plastic to enter the mould cavity smoothly through changes in the cross-section and direction of the flow channel.

Key points of manifold design:

①The cross-sectional area of the manifold should be as small as possible under the condition that it meets the injection moulding process of the precision injection mould.

②The principle of distribution of manifold and cavity is compact arrangement, reasonable distance should be used axisymmetric or centre symmetric, so that the balance of the flow channel, as far as possible to reduce the total area of the molding area.

③In general, the length of the manifold should be as short as possible.

④The number of turns in the design of the manifold should be as few as possible, and there should be a smooth transition at the turn, without sharp corners.

⑤The general surface roughness of the inner surface of the manifold should be Ra1.6.
