Why do mold parts need to be heat treated?

The physical and chemical properties of metals in use are seriously unstable due to the high number of impurities in the mining process. The heat treatment process can effectively purify them and improve their internal purity, and the heat treatment technology can also strengthen their quality improvement and optimize their actual performance. Heat treatment is a process in which a workpiece is heated in some medium, heated to a certain temperature, kept at that temperature for a certain period of time, and then cooled at different rates.

As one of the most important processes in the production of materials, metal heat treatment technology has great advantages compared to other common processing technologies. The “four fires” in metal heat treatment refer to annealing, normalizing, quenching (solution) and tempering (aging). When the workpiece is heated and reaches a certain temperature, it is annealed using different holding times depending on the size of the workpiece and the material, and then slowly cooled. The main purpose of annealing is to reduce the hardness of the material, improve the plasticity of the material, facilitate subsequent processing, reduce the residual stress, and evenly distribute the composition and organization of the material.

Machining is the use of machine tools and equipment for processing parts of a processing process, machining of parts before and after processing will be the corresponding heat treatment process. Its role is to.

1. To remove the internal stress of the blank. Mostly used for castings, forgings, welded parts.

2. To improve the processing conditions, so that the material is easy to process. Such as annealing, normalizing, etc.

3. To improve the overall mechanical properties of metal materials. Such as tempering treatment.

4. To improve the hardness of the material. Such as quenching, carburizing quenching, etc.

Therefore, in addition to the reasonable choice of materials and various forming processes, heat treatment process is often essential.

Heat treatment generally does not change the shape and overall chemical composition of the workpiece, but by changing the microstructure inside the workpiece, or changing the chemical composition of the surface of the workpiece, to give or improve the performance of the workpiece in use. It is characterized by an improvement in the intrinsic quality of the workpiece, which is generally not visible to the naked eye.
